Industry Support for Accreditation
Skillset has now successfully completed the pilot accreditation scheme and the first successful courses are:
BA (Hons) Animation Production at the Arts Institute, Bournemouth;
BA (Hons) Computer Visualisation and Animation at Bournemouth University;
HND in Art & Design (Computer Animation) / BA Hons Animation at the Glamorgan Centre for Art & Design Technology;
BA (Hons) Animation at the University of Wales, Newport;
BA (Hons) Animation at University College for the Creative Arts at Farnham; and
BA (Hons) Computer Animation at the University of Teesside.
For more details on these courses visit http://www.skillset.org/animation/accreditation/
The initiative was intended to ensure that graduates are more able to be successful in the industry and workplace because they have gained the right mix of vocational skills and experience at college or university. The intention was also to make sure that the graduates require less on the job training when they initially enter the work market.
An important factor in the success of the scheme will be the establishment of closer links between these courses and the industry. To this end Skillset is engaging with employers and representatives from the UK Animation Industry to facilitate the provision of the following services to accredited courses:
- Short work placements for full-time tutors to provide them with an up-to-date and working knowledge of the industry.
- Guest lectures or tutors on industry related issues.
- Mentor support for students to advise them on entering the workforce and getting their portfolios and show reels right.
- Placements for students or new graduates.
