Foundation Degrees

Foundation Degrees are new vocational, higher education qualifications designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge that employers are looking for. They integrate academic and work-based learning through close collaboration between employers and programme providers, usually universities in partnership with further education colleges. They are distinctive because they respond to employer demand and involve employers in the design and delivery of the courses.

Foundation degrees can be studied part-time by people already in work, or full-time by students wishing to enter the industry. A typical full-time Foundation Degree takes two years and students have the option to graduate with an FdA or FdSc or progress to the final year of an appropriate Honours Degree. Part-time study for people in work is available offering flexible study options including, for example, distance learning packages.
