Skillset welcomes clarity on the way forward for film
29th November 2010
We welcome today's statement about future plans for the UK Film Industry and the clarity that it brings. We are delighted that the Minister of Communication, Culture and the Creative Industries, Ed Vaizey MP has announced that support for industry training bodies such as Skillset will be maintained, with the honouring of existing commitments up to March 2012.
We now look forward to discussing how we continue our work in partnership with our new distributor, the British Film Institute, and its strategic partners Film London and the film agencies within the Nations - Creative England, Creative Scotland, the Film Agency for Wales and Northern Ireland Screen. We will do all we can to aid a smooth transition to the new arrangements.
The Lottery investment will help us continue to ensure that our current three year film skills strategy, A Bigger Future 2, carries on the vital delivering skills solutions that the UK Film Industry has told us it needs to remain a world leader.
We continue to collect additional contributions to delivering the strategy from the film production industry through the levy, the Skills Investment Fund (SIF), which Skillset established in 1999 and which has received £7,284,593 from 660 contributions to date."
