Getting to grips with LMI
Labour market intelligence (LMI) compares skills demand and supply within an economy, industry sector or region, to determine where the skills shortages are and how they can be addressed.
Governments, employers and other agencies use this type of research to inform their plans of action to close skills gaps.
Employers across most occupational sectors face skills shortages and gaps. Skillset's approach to information advice and guidance (IAG) aims to ensure that everyone has access to good quality careers advice in order to develop their skills and make effective job and careers decisions.
Some of Skillset's labour market intelligence (LMI) can be found on the National Guidance Research Forum's (NGRF) website, developed by the Institute for Employment Research (IER), part of the University of Warwick.
The NGRF website displays LMI for all industries in the UK. This information is presented in a consistent format that's easy to navigate. It includes a resource section called LMI learning, consisting of 6 modules for you to work your way through in your own time. See below for more details.
