Corporate Production

A

ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE - Person within the Production Company, who is lead and liaison with both client and production team alike and key factor in the whole process.

B

BUSINESS-TO-BUSINESS - Corporate production companies normally work for Business or Industrial organisations to enable them to deliver messages or communications for them via different media to other businesses or organisations, clients or the general public.

C

CLIENTS - May be major local or national or international companies, national or local government departments, charities, quangoes or other organisations large and small. Their wishes and demands are to be respected, worked to and delivered as they supply the budget, the brief, the deadlines and the crucial initial reactions to the production.

COMMERCIALS - Short films for Television broadcast or Cinema showing, which advertise brand or product in an audio visual manner with as much impact as possible. Created and financed by industry or commerce which is local, national or international in nature; or by government departments, Quangoes or charities and other organisations.

COMMISSIONERS for CORPORATE - Corporate production companies and teams aim to build positive and long-term relationships with the people who commission them. Commissioners tend to be: Marketing Directors (who want to produce information for sales teams or customers perhaps); Directors of Training or Human Resources (who want products that will help them train or motivate or communicate internally); Public Relations Specialists (who may want to raise or improve the image of a product or service); Communications Managers, whether Internal or External (who may want to communicate with staff, stakeholders, shareholders or customers or potential customers); Events Organisers (who may just want to be sure an event will go off with efficiency, or panache).

CORPORATE PRODUCTION - A thriving sector of the audio visual industry, with significant areas of business approaching £3 billion in annual turnover, producing events and audio visual material for a variety of business or corporate clients across media and areas such as: video, DVD, CD-ROM, Audio, Web, Film productions; Events and Conferences; Business to Business Television, whether live or pre-recorded.

DEADLINES - Commercials normally run to very tight deadlines, with possibly whole campaigns built around delivery on time and to specification.

FREELANCERS - People who work on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, as skilled operatives in one or few particular roles, but are casual workers.

IVCA - International Visual Communication Association, trade association of Corporate Production Companies. 

M

MEDIA CORPORATES WORK ACROSS - These include: Corporate Videos; Live Events - organising or recording; Business TV via satellite or Internet or video / DVD; Internet services; Interactive media, including CD-Rom and DVD; Audio; Animation; Film.

MINI-FEATURES - Description often used about commercials, which are reckoned to be feature films in quality and impact, but lasting only 10 o 60 seconds. Many in Commercials also look to move onto features, and there are a regular stream who make it.

MULTI-SKILLING - Since Corporate is dominated by Small to Medium Enterprises, working to reasonable but often carefully controlled budgets, multi-skilling is often the norm. People must be able and willing to turn their hands to a variety of tasks, with enthusiasm and without complaint.

P

PRODUCTION PROCESS - The Client is King / Queen in Corporate. Production is in 4 stages:

  1. Pitch for the job.
  2. Agree the brief, budget, and deadlines.
  3. Production stage of the job, with client involvement to greater or lesser degree, as previously agreed.
  4. Test and evaluate the effectiveness of production.

PRODUCTION TEAMS - In Commercials, production teams are much like those on feature films, often working to higher £ per minute budgets than even the most expensive features.

SKILLSET - Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industry, with offices in London, the Nations and Regions.

SMEs - Small to Medium Enterprises dominate the Corporate Production sector, employing perhaps 20 to 25 people per unit.

V

VIDEO - Although video does tend to dominate as the originating format of choice on Corporate productions, Film will still be used on a few productions.
