About the Facilities Industry
The facilities sector supplies specialised technical equipment and services.
There is an overlap with most sectors of creative media: broadcasters, independent production companies making programmes for broadcasters, feature films, commercials, pop promos, the corporate sector and sometimes for other organisations such as; major conference organisers or government departments.
Almost every production will use at least one facilities company - often many different ones for various types of work.
Facilities companies own and maintain high-value kit much of which will be leading edge technology. The term kit involves cameras, cranes, lighting equipment, special effects kit, studios, and other items.
Facilities companies can supply the kit on demand (and at a price) to production companies as and when they need it. This set-up gives producers the flexibility to achieve their desired style for each production by using the most appropriate technical equipment - without having to own all the kit themselves.
