Amar Ingreui. Edit Assistant Trainee FT2
Not so long ago, 23 year old Amar, from Ilford, Essex, was working in social services having given up on the idea of a career in media. “I did a film studies degree but it was very academic and getting hands on experience was so tough. I took the social services job just to pay the bills but the fear was I’d get stuck forever.”

He quit to work for free on a cable DIY show: “changing rooms but cheaper” says Amar. And now, after successfully applying to FT2, he’s half way through working on a Kudos production for Channel 4. His excitement is obvious. “It’s a rights of passage drama for young teenagers dealing with sexuality and peer pressure. It’s only been 6 weeks and I’ve just been getting my head down and getting on with it but I can’t believe how much I’ve already learnt.”
The most surprising thing for Amar so far has been the people he’s working with: “Everyone’s been fantastic. You hear horror stories and so prepare yourself for the worst, but everyone’s been lovely and really helpful. The pragmatic advice FT2 gave us has been invaluable. Especially the ‘what not to do’ suggestions! It was also good to spend time with the other trainees from all the other disciplines. I learnt about their jobs and I got to know them which calmed my nerves and helps for on set working where you need to build relationships quickly so you can do a good job together.”
Amar’s favourite movie is Edward Scissorhands. “I’m a big Tim Burton fan. I love the offbeat views of the world he gives you. I saw Scissorhands at 11 and that was it. I was hooked and going to be involved with films like that one day. Hopefully, now, I’m on my way.”
