Jobs in Studio & Equipment Hire

All companies employ at least some core staff involved with kit maintenance. The actual kit to be maintained varies with the company – this could be film / video cameras, lighting equipment or cranes.

The next step up is generally kit preparation: ensuring the required equipment is set up to meet client needs: the right lenses, correct settings and cabling. This requires a thorough knowledge of all the equipment and the ability to troubleshoot when clients run into problems.

Kit maintenance and preparation staff may include:

  • qualified electricians,
  • camera engineers,
  • video engineers,
  • optics specialists,
  • crane builders,
  • and engineers and others specific to the particular equipment

Most companies will have one or more trainees in the workshop or preparation area, learning the job. These jobs can provide a solid, thorough grounding into the industry. Read about Dry or Wet Hire here – Dry & Wet Hire.

All of the above jobs (and others) in the facilities sector may grow out of the basic entry level of trainee / driver / runner. Management and administrative jobs employed include sales and marketing, booking and accounts. Read what the professionals have to say about their experiences below, or read through – Job Profiles.
