Parliamentary Reception

On 16 June 2008 Skillset hosted a Parliamentary Reception for its current report A Bigger Future: 4 Years On, promoting awareness among government and MPs of the successes of Skillset's work in the film industry.
MPs and civil servants attended the reception to learn more about Skillset's work in the film sector through its UK film skills strategy A Bigger Future.
The reception showcased some of the projects and people who have benefited from Skillset's funding over the past four years.
These included:
35mm Project: Run by the Skillset Screen Academy at London College of Communication (LCC) and Ealing Institute of Media (EIM), the 35mm Project is a unique initiative that brings together writing and directing students with craft and technical students from varied disciplines from carpentry and plastering to hair and make up.
The project invites script submissions with the winning scripts shot and the sets and costumes designed and made from scratch. Many students from the Project have walked into jobs at Pinewood as a result of the scheme.
Visit the 35mm Project Web Pages for more information.
And
Faintheart: Faintheart, the MySpace MyMovieMashup project, is the first user-generated content film project in the world. The script and the director were selected by MySpace members, and many of the extras cast from MySpace members via online auditions.
Skillset sponsored the project to reach new audiences, many of the crew having benefited from Skillset funded training. Rachel Connors, a Producer of the film, had been a Trailblazer at Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) in 2007. Trailblazers is a joint initiative between Skillset and EIFF to promote new filmmaking talent. Read more in the Trailblazers pages of the site.
Director Vito Rocco had completed a Skillset-funded training course delivered by Slingshot to help filmmakers make the transition from making shorts to making features. Angels the Costumiers also attended to talk about their wardrobe training that Tommy Blunkell, a Wardrobe Assistant placement on the film, had completed.
