A Bigger Future is the national training and education strategy for the UK film industry. It was launched in 2004 and created in partnership between the UK Film Council and Skillset.

The strategy was created after more than 12 months of research and consultation with every area of the film industry.

A Bigger Future outlined both issues and proposed solutions to the various skills, training and education needs of the UK film industry at that time. It instigated various activity for Skillset to undertake in how to address these issues over a five-year period.

The key points were:

• The UK film industry has the capacity to enjoy greater success in the UK and globally;
• People in the industry with their skills, knowledge and abilities are our primary asset;
• There is a real lack of diversity - there is both a strong business case for diversity which will strengthen the industry and its prospects, and also we wish to encourage career advancement based on merit and skills, rather than contacts, so it is fairer with the best and most talented people finding success;
• A Bigger Future has the potential to transform our industry and the impact on our competitiveness on a global scale should be profound.

The strategy gave an opportunity for the UK film industry, the Government and our partners in the education and training to move towards the ultimate aim of ensuring the UK film industry remains competitive on a global scale, through skills and education.
