The Aims of A Bigger Future

The aim of A Bigger Future is to build upon the historical and recent successes of the UK industry whilst also acknowledging that there is still some way to go if we are to achieve what we are fully capable of. By building upon our key strengths, we have an opportunity to truly transform our industry into one which can really compete in the global marketplace.
People are the primary asset of the British film industry and our capacity to sink or swim is dependent, to a large extent, on one factor alone: the quality of the individuals involved. We need to ensure that we are attracting and retaining the brightest and the best people, irrespective of their background, ensuring that they are able to receive the highest quality and most relevant training available to them.
So how does it work?
Skillset’s Film Team work closely alongside producers, directors, writers, technicians, actors, distributors, exhibitors and their representative associations, trade unions and guilds to ascertain at the beginning of each year what the current industry priorities for training are.
Once we have agreed these priorities, the Film Fund team then write the guidelines for applications and the programme areas for companies, individuals and training providers to apply against. These are then posted on this site for people to refer to. Details of the programme areas, guidelines and application forms are available on this site.
All of our work is guided and advised by the Film Skills Strategy Committee, a panel of senior, respected film professionals who ensure that Skillset's activities meet the needs of the UK film industry.
