Robert Samuels - Talent Lab, UK Participant 08
Robert Samuels, Writer/Director, attended the Toronto International Film Festival Talent Lab in September 2008. Here he tells us in his own words how he found the experience.
Robert Samuels:
As an emerging writer/director, the Toronto International Film Festival Talent Lab was an incredible experience. I applied to be a participant through Skillset and was fortunate enough to be chosen. My background is illustration and previously I had written and directed several quirky short films. I thought the Talent Lab would be an excellent chance to listen and learn about the creative process from writers, directors and producers at the top of their careers, as well as from the other participants.
To be in an intimate setting of 24 people, to be able to ask very established filmmakers creative questions, was revealing, interesting, rewarding and fun. Now the second biggest film festival in the world, being at the Toronto Film Festival was hugely exciting, you could really feel the buzz all over the city and the Canadian's were great. Most of all at the Lab I wanted to listen, to hear of different ways of working, from people I respected and who creatively have stuck to their guns. I took away with me some great memories.
My future plans are to write a screenplay for the feature film: 'The Amazing Labours Of Arthur Glass,' which has been commissioned by B3 Media/Film Four through the B3 Featurelab.
