Aims of the Film Skills Fund

Emily Blunt stars in My Summer of Love

The overall aim of A Bigger Future, and therefore the Fund, is to ensure the long-term success and sustainability of the UK film industry.

Both the strategy and the Film Skills Fund seek to address the skills shortages exposed by Skillset's research programme and on-going consultation with the industry. The focus on skills development will enable the UK Film sector to remain competitive in the global market place.

The Fund will ensure that the UK film industry keeps its competitive edge by funding projects that:

  • Ensure an adequate supply of skilled and talented professionals;
    improve the diversity of the film industry workforce;
  • ensure that the workforce has current skills which keep pace with changing technologies;
  • increase the quality and range of skills development opportunities available;
  • raise knowledge and awareness of skills development opportunities and their benefits;
  • increase knowledge of and access to working in the film industry;
  • provide structured routes into and through the industry;
  • raise knowledge and awareness of career development opportunities in the industry.

Everything the Skills Film Fund supports has to meet at least one of these objectives.  All funded projects must contribute towards widening the diversity of the film industry's workforce.

A Bigger Future is an an achievable training and skills plan which answers to the well articulated needs of the sector. It is designed to be flexible in order to meet changing needs and technologies.
