The Fund’s grants are made up of funding from the National Lottery through the UK Film Council and the film industry through the Skills Investment Fund (SIF).

In April 2004 the UK Film Council delegated its training function and a proportion of its National Lottery grant to Skillset to invest in film specific training through the Skillset Film Skills Fund. This represents an assured £7 million of funding a year over three years from April 2004.

The Skills Investment Fund (SIF) is a voluntary levy on film production in the UK. The collection of the SIF is managed by Skillset and then invested in training through the Skillset Film Skills Fund. At present this represents an important commitment from the industry towards skills development contributing a minimum of £500,000 of funding per year depending on the volume of film production in the UK.

Skillset works closely with the Regional and National Screen Agencies throughout the UK who play a vital role in the continuum of support that individuals require by identifying and nurturing talent.

Skillset is also working to secure additional funding to successfully deliver A Bigger Future by promoting the importance of investing in the skills of the film industry to the relevant public funding agencies.
