Who does the Film industry need?

There is a wide range of specialist, high-end creative and technical skills employed in the film industry.

The existing craft, technical and production skills long associated with the film industry remain in demand

However, as the business model and technologies underlying the film industry become more complex, individuals will also need to develop a more sophisticated understanding of how the different sectors and functions of the industry inter-relate and of the impact of new technologies.

Compared with the entire UK population of working age, 16% of whom are graduates (Labour Force Survey, Historical Quarterly Supplement, Autumn 2003), film production crew are highly qualified. The Joint Skillset/UK Film Council Feature Film Production Workforce Survey 2008 found that three fifths (58%) has a degree, which is on a par with the rest of the creative media industries. A fifth (21%) of the degrees held by film production crew are postgraduate and two fifths (38%) are in film or media-related subjects.
