Cyfrifiad Cyflogaeth Skillset 2006
Now in its 6th year Skillset's Employment Census is an invaluable piece of research for the audio visual industries. It highlights the size, shape and make up of the workforce, charting emerging trends. The information is vital for Skillset which uses this industry snapshot to target its work, helping tailor skills and training initiatives and direct investment effectively.
The 2006 survey results show that employment levels in the TV industry have experienced significant changes over the last two years, with the cable and satellite sector enjoying a period of growth compared to a decrease in the terrestrial TV workforce. A small employment drop in Interactive Media was also recorded due to a decrease in the web and internet workforce.
Freelancers made up 27% of the workforce on Census Day, varying from two thirds of those working in commercials production (68%) and over half in independent production (57%), to fewer than two in ten in cable and satellite and the interactive media sectors.
There has been very little change in the overall demographic profile of the audio visual industries. Women make up 38% of the workforce; ethnic minorities make up 7.4% and disabled people make up 1.0%. The full report can be downloaded below. Also listed are the overall census results divided by Sector, Nation/Region and Job Role in Excel format.
