
Skillset's offer to the Computer Games industry
Guided by the Computer Games Skills Council and following extensive research and consultation with industry representatives, Skillset has produced a series of priorities and recommendations for our work with the computer games sector.
These will be regularly reviewed to ensure the focus of our activity remains relevant to industry needs.
Skillset will:
- establish clear links between education and industry, to create a set of clearly shared values for higher education through an industry approved accreditation process, by:
- increasing the range of accredited courses to include games courses widely regarded as being most relevant to the games industry;
- launching a postgraduate stream of accreditation for courses;
- implementing a comprehensive communications plan to promote industry-endorsed courses to prospective students;
- co-ordinate industry activity via the online system ‘Skillset 100'.

- inform a range of training options for new entrants, junior and senior staff and promote best practice in staff recruitment and retention, by:
- assisting in the creation of a centre of excellence delivering practice based courses for graduates/junior level staff;
- piloting the Modern Apprenticeship in QA Testing across the UK;
- work to approve games companies as Skillset Approved Training Providers to provide recognition of their investment in staff.
- inform, deliver and fund a range of training options for management and leadership, by:
- working with the centre of excellence to develop modular options for business leadership skills;
- working with a range of partners to deliver management training to key mid-level staff.
