Our research has shown that provided games specific courses can deliver the same high level skills as more generic subjects, and add to this the ability of graduates to adapt quickly to employment in the games industry - due to their familiarity with the context - the games industry will employ graduates with this background.
Skillset has created an accreditation scheme to help identify courses throughout the UK that provide the skills, knowledge and experience needed for individuals to confidently enter the industry. The intention is to deliver a more focused and 'career aware' supply of graduates into the industry.
It is felt by industry and many education providers that accreditation of degree level courses would enable the industry to more effectively maintain its competitive edge through the skills of its workforce and it would allow industry to channel its support directly to the courses that are properly preparing students with the right skills to work in the industry.
Accreditation will also enable potential students to make more informed choices about entering the computer games sector.
