Where is the computer games sector based?

The computer games workforce is distributed relatively evenly across the UK, which differentiates the games industry from the rest of the creative media sector where the trend is for the majority of companies to be based in or around London. The games industry maintains noticeable clusters in the Midlands, the north west and the east, as well as in London.

Just one fifth (19%) of the computer games workforce is based in London. With 30% the north west of England has the highest concentration of games developers of all regions, followed by the east of England (18%),  East Midlands (8%) and Scotland (7%). Significant local clusters exist in Guildford, Brighton, Cambridge and Dundee.
