Where is the Computer Games sector based?
Despite the fact that just over 50% of the workforce in the games sector is based in London and the South East, the computer games sector is unlike most other sectors in the audio visual industries, as significant areas of activity are spread across the UK, often manifesting as 'hubs' or 'clusters'.
There are important centres for games production in places such as: Manchester & Liverpool in the North West; Warwickshire; Sheffield; and Dundee. Often this is reflected by the creation of local networks such as Game Republic in Yorkshire or Game Horizon in Newcastle.
The key issue regarding geographical perspective is that companies outside the main centres (London and South East of England) must be able to compete effectively in this global marketplace and think globally about their relationship to publishers.
