South East - Company Support - Business Development Scheme
Skillset, in collaboration with SEEDA and other key regional partners put together a pilot scheme to help grow and increase the employment base of the Creative Media industries in the South East.
The pilot was aimed at small and medium sized businesses within the Interactive Media and Computer Games sectors as both sectors are of vital strength for the region.
The scheme sought to boost the companies' business skills and commercial awareness in order to complement their creative and entrepreneurial talent. The pilot also addressed the following topics:
- Raising necessary capital;
- when and how to invest in technology,
- planning projects properly; and
- available resources and new markets awareness.
Through consultation with the relevant industry players and the project steering group, the scheme was tailored to suit the needs of the participating companies and achieved success through the following resources:
- One to one guidance from specialist business advisors;
- workshops and networking opportunities;
- bespoke information materials addressing a combination of generic and sector specific business skills;
- particular attention to transferable skills and life long learning; and
- focused sessions on management and leadership skills targeting individuals running existing teams.
The Interactive Media and Computer Games sectors in the South East have seen substantial employment growth in recent years with research showing them to be the largest sub-sectors in the region.
