Photo Imaging Skills Council Meetings

Following the creation of the new Commission for Employment and Skills - which was one of the outcomes of the Leitch Review, all SSCs have to present themselves for re-licensing later this year.

This prompted a review of all governance procedures and as a result, the the old photo imaging "forum" has now been redesignated as a Council, with a stronger commitment to delivering the aims of Skillset in relation to the Photo Imaging sector.

July 2008

At the first meeting of this new Council, the seven point action plan for the next two years was confirmed, whereby Skillset will:

  • facilitate access to business skills support packages, that will benefit individuals and companies at different stages of their business growth
  • engage with education to highlight the importance of embedding business skills into their course curriculum
  • explore how best to direct companies and individuals to ‘quality assured' providers of short courses that meet immediate specialist technical skills gaps.
  • examine the potential for accrediting industry based training, to satisfy industry demands for recognition of this valuable source of skills development
  • work in collaboration with industry and Higher Education to develop formal partnerships that highlight and recognise excellence
  • encourage the utilisation and promotion of industry informed qualifications, such as  S/NVQs and City & Guilds VRQs
  • work with key partners to develop and deliver relevant industry informed careers guidance to benefit both the existing workforce and potential entrants at all levels

It was agreed to set up two working groups to examine why NVQs were not proving popular with the sector, what barriers there were to take up and to propose ways to promote the benefits more widely.
