
Apprenticeships in Photo Imaging
Apprenticeships are a form of structured learning providing clear vocational routes into employment as well as giving Apprentices the chance to ‘earn and learn' at the same time.
Skillset currently have two Apprenticeship Frameworks for the Photo Imaging Sector, combining on- and off-the-job training:
Advanced/Modern Apprenticeship in Photo Imaging for Staff Photographers
This consists of: key skills; employer rights and responsibilities; a knowledge based element (City & Guilds level 3 Certificate in Image Capture); and an appropriate pathway from the NVQ Photo Imaging Level 3.
This Apprenticeship is delivered to candidates within the Armed Services through the Defence School of Photography. As of Sept 2009, the Apprenticeship is also available to those outside the Armed Services, through Warwickshire College:

Benefits to the learner
The Modern Apprenticeship aims to give individuals broader, transferable skills as well as occupationally specific skills appropriate to the industry and job role, including:
- An appropriate level of literacy and numeracy
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of people
- An ability to learn and apply learning in the workplace
- An ability to interpret customers' requirements and expectations effectively
- An awareness and a broader the Photo Imaging industry and opportunities within it
- An understanding of how to be a team player within an organisation
- An ability to contribute to an organisation achieving its business goals
Benefits to the employer
On completion of their training, apprentices will represent a significant resource to the industry and have a range of well-developed technical, generic skills and abilities.
The frameworks have been developed with Photo Imaging employers, are based on National Occupational Standards and are in line with new emerging technologies, ensuring they reflect the needs of the sector.
