The Photo Imaging Skill Set
The Photo Imaging industry increasingly requires practitioners with combinations of skills, often across several disciplines, typically combining technical proficiency, creative flair, business acumen and general work-life skills. These need to be supported by knowledge and awareness of the industry and framed by certain attitudes and personality traits. Domain specific expertise is often also required.
Some of these skills are specific to the Photo Imaging industry, while others are more transferable, being equally relevant to other sectors or industry in general.
Although there are variations in skills requirements between sub-sectors and roles, we here address the Photo Imaging skill set as a whole. A good all-round skill set is a useful foundation for all roles, and can facilitate career progression through or across the industry. We do, however, endeavour to indicate where specific skills are particularly important or relevant to certain sub-sectors or roles.
It should be noted that while many skills are enduring, others are more transient. Enduring skills generally require little or no updating once acquired, and typically provide a foundation for the overall skill set. These would usually encompass underlying principles, theory and basic concepts that tend not to change much over time. Transient skills change often and usually need updating on a regular basis. These skills relate particularly to specific technologies or tools, and especially to computer software.
