Publishing Skills Council - Terms of Reference and Meeting Summary
The Publishing Skills Council meets four times a year to ensure a strategic approach to the training needs of publishing sector within UK industry and within Skillset's work as the Sector Skills Council for Creative Media.
Meeting Summary
The summer meeting took place on 15 July 2009. The following is a summary of some of the key points discussed and actions agreed.
- The Council were updated on policy changes and developments, including the merger of the Department of Innovation, Universities and Skills with Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform to form the new Department of Business, Innovation and Skills.
- Indicative content for Publishing has now been produced for inclusion in the curriculum for the Diploma in Creative and Media. Advice and support for teachers will be developed to answer publishing work related learning queries.
- The Council discussed what the skills implications are for each of the sectors in a digital context. It was proposed that a series of papers be written by members of the Council and publicised via the Skillset website to stimulate debate in the industry around digital skills issues.
- A range of careers information is being developed for the industry and the options for a course search database for new entrants and existing staff are being researched.
