Skillset's Aprenticeship Frameworks
Although Apprenticeships may not be an appropriate entry route for all sectors of the creative media industries recent research has identified a number of sectors and occupations where Apprenticeships could offer a viable entry route into employment.
These areas are:
- Photo Imaging
- Games Testing
- Technical Roles in Film and TV
- Production Roles in TV
- Set Crafts

Skillset's Games Testing Apprenticeship is now available for national take-up. This is the first Apprenticeship scheme of its type and the first structured, work based learning programme for the games industry. Click here to find out more about the Computer Games Apprenticeship.
Skillset will be working with the Computer Games Forum, Regional Development Agencies and Trade Associations to look at the possibility of progression to a Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Skillset also aims to develop a Framework for Technical Roles in Film and TV covering job roles such as Lighting, Grips, Crane, Stagehands, Camera and possibly Post Production. Consultation with employers will take place throughout 2007 to establish both the levels of interest and a potential Framework model.
The BBC/Media Training North West, in partnership with LSC Greater Manchester, are planning an apprenticeship pilot in the north-west of England for Production for TV and are currently working with Skillset and other industry partners to develop a new production framework. Recruitment for the pilot is anticipated to start place this summer.
