What will I study?
The Diploma in Creative and Media is made up of several components:
Principal Learning
This is the main part of the course and will give you the chance to explore different creative disciplines and industries, and see how they work together. You'll get to work on projects and assignments and learn about all the different things that go into creative production, from the planning and developing stage, to the business side of managing and marketing your project.
You'll be able to work with employers and practitioners and learn about the reality of working in the creative industries. You'll also develop the skills and understanding these employers are looking for in future employees.
Throughout the Principal Learning, you'll have the chance to study a mixture of the following disciplines:
2D Visual Art | Interactive Media |
Project
This is a chance to undertake a project of your own devising in something you're really interested in. It's a great opportunity to show off your skills and knowledge to prospective employers and universities.
Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills
These skills support all the other parts of the Diploma course and will continue to support you at university and working life. They include things like independent enquiry, creative thinking, reflective learning, team working, managing your own work and participating effectively.
Functional Skills
These are the essential elements of English, mathematics and ICT that everyone needs to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and work. In order to complete your Diploma, you will need to sit separate functional skills assessments and achieve qualifications in English, mathematics and ICT; at level 1 for the Foundation Diploma, and level 2 for the Higher and Advanced Diplomas.
Additional and Specialist Learning
You will be able to choose from a wide range of Additional and Specialist Learning based on your interests and career goals. You can deepen your understanding of a particular creative discipline by studying a related subject like Art or Media Studies, or graded music exams. Or if you want to explore other subjects you can broaden your learning with subjects like Biology, History, Italian or Business Studies, anything that interests you.
