Radio NOS Focus Groups 08
Skillset have held Focus Groups in Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow and London in July to review the National Occupational Standards for Radio. These Standards define the competencies (skills, knowledge & understanding) which apply to specific job roles or occupations.
We write Standards in consultation with industry practitioners and employers to ensure that they are relevant and up-to-date with current work practices. Standards are then used as benchmarks to develop Human Resource tools, training provision, accredited qualifications and other products that help the development of workforce skills.
Our discussions will included agreeing the key functions involved in radio content creation, e.g., writing & scripting, presentation, audio recording & editing etc and identifying core units for each function, e.g writing for online and other text based means of distribution, as well as writing for the ear, would be core to the ‘writing & scripting' function.
If you would like to know more about the Radio Standards review, please email Amy Thomas - Skillset's Radio Sector Manager at amyt@skillset.org or our Standards Manager, Valerie Pobjoy at valeriep@skillset.org.
