Tuning In Blog

Tuning In was Skillset's first ever national radio conference, supported by SEEDA, Radio Today and The Radio Academy.

Information and commentary from Skillset's Tuning In conference was relayed live on the internet throughout the day, allowing readers to follow discussions and debates on diversity in the radio industry, the importance of training and the future of radio.

The conference marked the anniversary of the launch of Skillset's Radio Strategy. Over the past year Skillset has delivered the Route Into Radio project in the South East and produced a new set of National Occupational Standards on Radio Content Creation.

As the radio sector adapts to accommodate new digital technology and delivery platforms, Skillset's work will be guided by its new Radio Skills Council. This industry steering group will be chaired by Sonita Alleyene of Somethin Else and will drive work forward in the following priority areas:

  • continuing professional development;
  • new talent in the community radio sector;
  • relationships between education and industry.

Key actions for 2009/10 include:

  • exploring potential for further development of Route into Radio;
  • development of a new qualification to support the community radio sector;
  • identifying support for training in the radio industry via Train to Gain.
