Size and shape of the creative industries
It is crucial for the industry and Government to understand the size and shape of the creative industries. Skillset's Research team takes a sector–specific approach to gathering this Labour Market Intelligence (LMI).
This includes how many people work in the industries, in which sectors, in which occupations and the number who are female; are from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic background; are disabled.
For most sectors and sub-sectors in our footprint - broadcast, facilities, animation, cinema exhibition, film distribution, interactive media, photo imaging, computer games and other content creation - we gather this information using the Skillset Census.
For Film Production, we undertake with the UK Film Council the Feature Film Production Workforce Survey. And for industries with which we have begun working recently, we gather evidence with smaller surveys before including them in the main surveys in due course.
Find out below more about each of these means by which we gather information on the industries. Or click here for LMI overviews for the different sectors in our footprint and for each of the UK's Nations and Regions.
