Archiving the Future Event, 27 and 28 Feb 2010
Supported by Skillset Film Skills Fund, the 'Archiving The Future' event is an exciting opportunity to explore emerging practices in the creation and use of film archive materials.
This event is aimed at archivists, producers, freelance filmmakers, editors, researchers, production assistants and screenwriters. It is taking place at York St. John University on 27 and 28 February 2010.
The programme focuses on the subject of archiving by looking predominantly from the perspective of production. The event will inform those within the field of archiving about emerging technologies which could affect the future of their work, but also those in production roles of future practices which they will need to adopt as part of their practice.

Delegates will be able to opt into a range of seminars and keynote lectures covering topics such as:

- Emerging Technologies and Archiving the Future

- Industry awareness, understanding the role of archiving in production workflow

- New production practices
Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a practical workshop led by the Yorkshire Film Archive covering:
- Introduction to the work of a regional film archive
- Yorkshire Film Archive Collection
- Acquisition
- Conservation/preservation
- Access - including examples of commercial, outreach and education
- Handling and identification of small gauge film
- Cataloguing
