The following non-media-specific organisations focus on diversity issues for people with disabilities - either in lobbying government, providing information or running schemes to promote diversity in the media. All should be excellent points of contact for addressing the issues faced by people with disabilities working in, or seeking to enter, the audio visual industries.

Ability NetExpert advice in disability and computing.

All go here a directory of UK hotels which are accessible to disabled or able-bodied people.

British Council of Disabled People Umbrella of organisations controlled by disabled people. 

British Deaf Association Campaigning organisation for British sign language users; also organises yearly Deaf Film Festival.

Centre for Accessible Environments Advice, publications on environmental access and register of access auditors.

Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People (CACDP), Publishes annual Register of Sign Language Interpreters and minimum rates.

DirectGov: Disability Comprehensive online guide to public services information, with advice on employment, training and finance for disabled people.

Disability Rights Commission Works for inclusivity - the full participation in society of all disabled people as equal citizens. Their helpline is also excellent for advice on the Disability Discrimination Act.

Disability World A bi-monthly web-zine of international disability news and views.

Disability Now The UK's biggest selling disability related newspaper

Deaf & Creative A website aimed at young deaf people who have nearly finished school or college and are thinking about what to do next.

Disabled Living Foundation Exhibition and advice on aids and equipment.

Disability Wales The national association of disability groups striving to achieve rights, equality and choice for all disabled people in Wales.

RADAR (Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation)
The UK's campaigning and advisory disability body, run by and for disabled people.

RNIB - Royal National Institute for the Blind Information on audio-description, access/mobility, legal issues. RNIB Helpline: 0845 766 9999

RNID - Royal National Institute for Deaf People General advice, interpreters' service and information on aids and equipment .

Scope Employment support particularly for people with cerebral palsy.

Skill Information Booklets Several free to download booklets on funding for disabled students, and other topics.

Skill: National Bureau for Students with Disabilities Supports disabled students and promotes opportunities for people with any kind of disability in learning and employment.
