The following organisations are working to ensure that the UK creative media industries' workforce is representative of the UK population as a whole. On their websites you can find a wealth of helpful information and resources aimed at helping black and minority ethnic professionals get in and get on in the UK media, as well as support in setting up your own diversity schemes.
Asians In Media - AiM is an online media and current affairs magazine, publishing news on Asians in the British media, and explores how the industry relates to minority-ethnic communities. They also publish useful information to those looking to get into the media.
Black Filmmaker Magazine - The leading magazine for black filmmakers in the UK, they also run the BFM International Film Festival.
Cultural Diversity Network (CDN) - The CDN seeks to provide a platform for collective action on the key issues of diversity in the media. Its website provides access to all the major Broadcasters in the UK.
CDN North - The Cultural Diversity Network North (CDN North) was founded in 2004 to help the media industry in the North support its distinctive diversity needs. The network consists of major broadcasters, partners and public sector agencies.
CDN's Diversity Database - The Cultural Diversity Network's unique online directory of black, asian and other ethnic minority TV freelancers and staff. The Database is one of a raft of initiatives that the Cultural Diversity Network is taking to improve the diversity of our programmes and production teams.
Diversity Production Network - The Diversity Production Network is a programme run by ABi Associates to encourage and support the formation of new business in the film, broadcasting and new media sector from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, women and people with disabilities.
The 2 organisations below, while not specific to the media, provide general support and advice on equality and diversity issues for individuals and businesses:
Commission Racial Equality - The CRE may be able to help you if you believe you have been discriminated against. They cover important aspects of employment, such as recruitment and selection, and customer service.
Race for Opportunity - Network of private and public sector businesses committed to promoting racial diversity in industry.
