Skillset launch Welsh language consultation

Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries, has published a draft Welsh Language Scheme in accordance with the Welsh Language Act 1993. Under Section 13 of the Act, Skillset has a duty to issue the draft scheme for public consultation "in order to ascertain views representative of both Welsh speaking and other members of the public who may be affected by the scheme".
The public consultation begins on Thursday 30 September and will end on Thursday 25 November. Comments on the draft scheme should be received no later than 25 November. After the consultation is complete the scheme will be finalised and submitted to the Welsh Language Board for final approval by the end of January 2005.

1. Skillset is the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries. Audio visual industries in this context means, Broadcast, Film, Video, Interactive Media and Photo Imaging. Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are independent, UK wide organisations developed by groups of influential employers in industry or business sectors of economic or strategic significance. SSCs are employer-led and actively involve trade unions, professional bodies and other stakeholders in the sector.
2. Skillset Cymru was launched in July 2002 charged with addressing the skills, talent and company development needs of the Audio Visual Industries in Wales. The work of Skillset Cymru is steered by an advisory committee made up of senior industry representatives in Wales and chaired by Huw Jones, Chief Executive of S4C and Skillset board member.
