New film skills website launched

Film industry backed website is one stop shop for film careers

Simon Pegg, star and writer of Shaun of the Dead, said:

SKILLSET has launched a new film website for everyone working or wanting to work in the UK film industry. www.skillset.org/film is a one stop shop for all information on getting in and getting on in film careers. Covering all aspects of film from development through to exhibition, the site reveals the realities of working in the film industry, including:

  • 5,000 film and media courses searchable online.

  • 40 revealing interviews with leading industry professionals and company heads.

  • Job descriptions and career paths for over 200 film jobs.

  • A storyboard guide to the filmmaking process called 'The Business - Understanding filmmaking.'

  • Careers advice and guidance, including support for film freelancers.

  • The latest bursaries and funding available.

  • Facts and figures giving an up to date picture of working life in film.

The Business - Understanding FilmmakingTo launch the new website Skillset is running a competition on the UK film industry. All answers to the online quiz can be found in the storyboard guide to the industry featured on the site called 'The Business - Understanding filmmaking'. The top prize for 10 winners is a private screening of an unreleased feature at United International Pictures preview theatre in London followed by networking drinks with industry professionals. 10 further winners will receive either a 12 month membership to DVD rental site www.lovefilm.com or a free face to face careers advice session with a Skillset film advisor. To enter visit www.skillset.org/film/business. The closing date is 31 March 2005.

Skillset's new film website is a part of A Bigger Future, the UK film skills strategy - a joint initiative between Skillset and the UK Film Council covering the skills development of everyone working or wanting to work in the film industry.
