
More Animation Courses Pass Industry Test
A further three degree level animation courses have been approved by Skillset's accreditation scheme for the industry.
The successful courses receiving the industry's official seal of approval are:
BA (Hons) Animation, University of Wales, Newport
BA (Hons) Animation, Farnham at University College for the Creative Arts
and BA (Hons) Computer Animation, University of Teesside
The UK wide accreditation scheme was developed by Skillset in consultation with the industry and education providers and approved its first three courses in April 2005:
BA Hons Animation Production at the Arts Institute, Bournemouth
BA Hons Computer Animation and Visualisation at Bournemouth University
and HND in Art & Design (Computer Animation)/BA Hons Animation at the Glamorgan Centre for Art & Design
Marion Edwards, Independent Animation Producer and Chair of Skillset's Animation Forum, which has guided the accreditation process, said :
"Each of these six courses has passed a rigorous assessment process based on the real world skills the industry is saying it needs to keep business competitive. They represent the best education and training development available to animators of the future."
Accreditation is valid for three years and successful institutions will benefit from support services co-ordinated by Skillset which will include: tutorials and master classes for course leaders; visiting lectures for students; work placements for students; work placements for tutors; tours of animation studios for course leaders; mentor support for students; provision of resources for courses (industry storyboards, budget sheets, briefs etc.)

Compositing / Shooting on Film
Sound recording and breakdown: Voice, Music & Effects

1. Skillset is the Sector Skills Council for the Audio Visual Industries. Audio visual industries in this context means, Broadcast, Film, Video, Interactive Media and Photo Imaging. Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) are independent, UK wide organisations developed by groups of influential employers in industry or business sectors of economic or strategic significance. SSCs are employer-led and actively involve trade unions, professional bodies and other stakeholders in the sector.
