Applications Open for the Prestigious Film Fellowship in The Clore Programme

The Clore Leadership Programme announced today that applications are now open for the Film Fellowship for 2008/9. Both Skillset and the UK Film Council will continue to support the fellowship, having seen successful results for the industry from the fellowships' inaugural year in 2007.

The Core Leadership Programme is designed to help develop the knowledge, skills, networks and experience of potential leaders across a wide range of cultural activity. The Film Fellowship is awarded to someone engaged in any aspect of the world of film making, policy or distribution and this year there will be a renewed focus on applicants from groups that are currently under-represented in the film industry.

The Film Fellow will have an individually tailored programme lasting a year or longer, commencing in September 2008. This will include two intensive residential leadership courses; professional development through mentoring, tuition and group learning; time for reflection, research and debate and a period of secondment, including experience of managing a challenging project.

"The Clore Leadership Programme has already had remarkable success in helping to develop the skills and confidence of potential leaders across the world of the arts and culture.  It's terrific news that for the second year running we can extend this to the world of the public agencies that support film. I hope we will get a flood of really good applicants for this opportunity, as we did last year," comments Lord (Chris) Smith of Finsbury, Director of The Clore Leadership Programme and Skillset patron.

Dinah Caine, CEO of Skillset comments, "We are delighted to be supporting the Film Fellowship for a second year running. The 2007 Film Fellowship winner saw great results from the programme, which proves how this fellowship provides major benefits, not only to the successful candidate but also to the film industry as a whole."

The closing date for applications for the Film Fellowship is Monday 17th March 2008. Details for application and further information can be found at the Clore Leadership Programme website.

Editor's Notes:

1.Skillset is the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for Creative Media which comprises TV, film, radio, interactive media, animation, computer games, facilities, photo imaging and publishing.  SSCs are licensed by the UK Government and by Ministers in the devolved administrations to tackle the skills and productivity challenge by sector. They are independent, UK-wide organisations, are employer-led, and actively involve trade unions, professional bodies and other stakeholders in the industry.

2. UK Film Council is the Government-backed agency for film in the UK, set up to stimulate a successful, vibrant film industry and to promote the widest possible enjoyment and understanding of cinema throughout the UK.  Investing in the skills development of the film workforce is vital to achieving a successful film industry and film culture and through our partner Skillset, we invest £6.5 million of National Lottery money a year in training.  We also invest grant and Lottery money in developing new filmmakers, funding exciting new British films, promoting Britain as an international filmmaking location, getting a wider choice of films to audiences throughout the UK, and in raising the profile of British films abroad.
