Skillset joins forces with innovative Swedish educators Hyper Island

12 November 2009

They have been described as "the interactive equivalent of Oxbridge", and their alumni work in some of the most influential digital marketing agencies in the world.

Now Swedish training innovators Hyper Island are partnering with Skillset to bring their unique style of education and digital know-how to the UK's rapidly evolving Creative Media Industries.

At a time when many within the TV industry are scrambling to come to terms with the ascendance of multiplatform delivery, the sector skills council has appointed Hyper Island to run a programme to develop the interactive mindset needed to keep pace with this new phase of the medium's evolution.

Skillset has committed £75,000 through its TV Freelance Fund (TVFF) to TV GO IT - a programme for 20 TV professionals that is recruiting this month and will run over the first three months of next year.

The programme's emphasis is on developing the individual to respond to a multiplatform world, rather than teaching technical skills.

Peter Dale, chair of Skillset's TV Skills Council and CEO of Rare Day, said: "Preparing our professionals for multiplatform programming is a huge challenge for the UK TV industry, which is why Skillset is delighted to be entering into a partnership with a world leader in digital interactive education."

Hyper Island's CEO Mattias Hansson said. "After sending students to agencies all around the UK for more than 14 years, bringing Hyper Island to the UK is a natural step for us. Skillset is the perfect partner for taking Hyper Island to the next level in the UK."

Through its partnership with Hyper Island, Skillset aims to give UK television professionals access to the digital and leadership expertise that has seen 90 per cent of Hyper Island students secure jobs in their chosen industry before they graduated.

Hyper Island's partnership with Skillset will also encompass a number of leadership courses being run in the north of England that are open to people across the creative media sector.
