Skillset celebrates success of Diploma in Creative and Media
March 18 2010
The partners behind the development of the UK's most popular Diploma programme are meeting today (Thursday March 18) to discuss the way forward for the new qualification.
While almost 10,000 students are studying the Diploma in Creative and Media - representing more than one quarter of the 36,000 students studying a diploma in England - Skillset chair and GMTV chairman Clive Jones will urge the meeting of the Diploma Development Partnership to ensure that the qualification retains its currency with industry and education.
Mr Jones will tell the meeting: "In order for the Diploma in Creative and Media to remain credible it must adapt to future technological change and economic transition."
Skillset, the Sector Skills Council for the Creative Media Industries, leads the Diploma Development Partnership which has developed the Diploma. Today's meeting at Sadler's Wells will bring together all of the bodies who make up the Diploma Development Partnership, which includes representatives from the creative, cultural, media industries (Channel 4, The Guardian), Higher Education, Awarding Organisations and a partnership of Skillset and Creative and Cultural Skills.
The meeting comes as the first Diploma graduate was accepted unconditionally into one of England's leading universities, Norwich University College of the Arts, demonstrating the qualification's credibility as a legitimate pathway into higher education.
