Photo Imaging Industry Snapshot Survey
A comprehensive research project profiling the working patterns of the photo imaging workforce has been announced by Skillset, Sector Skills Council for the Creative Media Industries. Approximately 10,000 questionnaires will be distributed by Skillset between March and May 2007. Individuals working across all job roles throughout the industry will be surveyed and information collected on working patterns, salaries, skills development levels and needs, as well as age, gender and ethnicity.
The results, which will be published at the end of the year, will form a detailed picture of the size, shape and make up of the workforce. This data can be used to lobby government agencies for funding and resources to support training and education for the specific needs of freelancers and small businesses as well as those employed by larger companies in the sector. Nigel McNaught, Director of Operations at PMA and Chair of the Photo Imaging Skills Forum, made up of industry representatives, which guides all of Skillset's work in the sector, said: "This scale of research project is a first for the photo imaging industry and will provide invaluable data on our workforce. Never before have we been able to point to figures showing who works in our industry, where they are and what skills needs they have. Once collated the results will shine a spotlight on our industry helping us to direct support and funding and galvanise action where it is needed most."
Pippa Walkley, Skillset's Photo Imaging Sector Manager, said: "This will be the biggest and most comprehensive workforce survey ever carried out in the photo imaging sector. The huge amount of labour market information and general market research gathered will be freely available for the industry to use to inform their future planning."
