Skillset sign "Skills Pledge" Initiative
Today Skillset is one of the first organisations in the UK to announce their commitment to the ‘Skills Pledge' at a special ceremony with Gordon Brown. The Pledge is a voluntary, yet public assurance, by companies to support all their employees to develop their basic skills, including literacy and numeracy, and to work towards relevant and valuable qualifications.
By developing their skills, our workforce will be able to make a fuller contribution to the organisation enabling businesses to improve productivity and competitiveness by ensuring that staff have the right skills to do the best job possible whilst increasing employee confidence and motivation.
The Skills Pledge partnership is being launched today across the public, private and voluntary sectors and is open to all employers of any size business.
Dinah Caine, Chief Executive Skillset comments "Skillset is continually consulting with partners to investigate ways of instilling a desire for lifelong learning, skills development and training. The talent of the workforce in our industry will benefit from maintaining and improving skills and learning experiences and this remains one of the industry's top priorities".
Clive Jones, Chair of Skillset's board says, "The Skills Pledge benefits both business and employee and any skills training should form a key part of a business development strategy. This initiative further addresses the skills agenda and is a step forward in enabling our industry and the economy to thrive even further."
The Skills Pledge forms part of the wider New Skills Campaign and is open to all companies in the audio visual industries and the wider economy. Organisations signing up to the initiative will be provided with a skills broker, provided by the Learning Skills Council's Train to Gain service, who will ensure that training is delivered to meet business needs. Skills Pledge leaflets can be obtained by calling 0800 015 5545 or register at Train to Gain
