Broadcast Media Technology
National Occupational Standards (Standards) provide a clear, up to date description of what an individual needs to be able do in order to perform a job successfully. They consist of a detailed breakdown of the tasks, knowledge and skills needed for effective performance within a job role, including any statutory or legal responsibilities. The Standards have been developed, in conjunction with SEMTA - The Sector Skills Council for Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technologies, over a number of years by both people who work in the industry and experts from each occupational area through a process of investigation, analysis and consultation with a wide range of people.
You may wish to download the entire suite of Standards, but it is also possible to download individual units or search for units appropriate to specific job roles within Broadcast Media Technology.
Background
The skills and knowledge required of Broadcast engineers were mapped to the overarching OSCEng (Occupational Standards Council for Engineering) Standards, which are used as a template, and the appropriate units were contextualised by industry specialists for the broadcast sector.
What are levels?
These sets of Standards make reference to specific levels. Standards are made up of a group of units and each unit can be assigned a different level. By grouping together units of National Occupational Standards you can specify the full range of performance, knowledge and skills needed for a particular job.
The majority of Standards developed and owned by Skillset are not levelled. Skillset develops qualification structures which contains this information if required.
National Occupational Standards are used as the building blocks for the design of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs). NVQs and SVQs are work-related competence based qualifications and are available at a number of different levels. These Standards are assigned levels because the organisation who developed them wanted to make a clear reference to the nationally recognised qualification level framework.
For more information on Qualification Frameworks and the different levels please go to the QCA and SQA websites.
