Freelancers
Freelancers are a fundamental part of the audio visual industries, with 90% of the film workforce being freelance, 16% of the interactive media workforce and over 50% of the TV workforce. The workforce is very mobile and requires both training for new entrants and for continuing professional development to keep skills up to date.
By recognising the dynamics of the above constituent parts of the industry, we have approached funding solutions by pooling investment at a national level and investing in skills development for freelancers. This will meet skills gaps and shortages identified through Skillset's research and support the delivery of industry wide collaborative strategies.
The industry wishes to see its strategic investment in supporting the skills development of this nationally mobile workforce supported by Government and its agencies UK-wide.
It also seeks recognition that existing public investment is largely predicated on models of staff employment and that different models need to be adopted, recognised and supported for mobile freelance workforces.
