Fundamental to Skillset's industry engagement is the necessity to identify the creative media industries' skills needs. Skillset operates a comprehensive programme of research about the industries themselves and the training provision available to them. The research programme is endorsed by the industries, which recognise Skillset as the leading specialists in this area.
Our research programme enables us to:
- Understand the size, shape and make-up of the creative media industries' workforce;
- Identify skills gaps and shortages and inform Skillset's investment in training to address these problems;
- Enable employers to prioritise internal training;
- Identify diversity and access issues in the industry and work with other industry bodies to improve representation;
- Influence government policy to ensure HE and FE provision meets industry need;
- Use labour market intelligence (LMI) to attract investment from government and its public agencies into the creative media industries; and
- Inform our Skills Strategies and Sector Workforce Development Plans.
