Skillset supports schemes that combine short course training with industry work placements and assessment to get your qualifications.

Generally in order to get on a scheme you need to:

• be committed to a freelance career in the industry;
  
• have had some experience of working in the audio-visual industries (this doesn't need to be paid work);
  
• be ready to participate for 3 to 18 months (you will get an allowance to help you do this).

Remember, many people want to get in to the media but not many people know what it's really like to work there. There's a lot of competition so you need to be absolutely committed and determined to make a career for yourself in the industry. Make sure you read the guidelines for schemes fully and ensure your application form is complete before sending it in, and then prepare for an interview in the same way you would for a job or university. It's your one chance to show why you should be given the chance instead of someone else.
