The University of Sunderland is one of the country's leading centres for teaching, learning and research in media and one of the first universities in the United Kingdom to offer the subject.
The University offers a wide range of courses, taught in the modern and exciting riverside setting of the purpose-built Media Centre, just a few minutes' walk from the city centre and Sunderland's fabulous beaches.
Sunderland has a strong partnership with the creative industries in the North East, enabling it to be a driving force in the industrial and commercial revival of the region. The professional expertise among staff and guest speakers enhances the
University's high quality education and ensures relevant technological developments are embraced and reflected in the courses.
The focus on practice-based skills helps graduates to succeed in their chosen careers and many have gone on to win RTS and Sony awards.
The Media Centre boasts:
- Two television studios (one for chroma key);
- four radio studios;
- numerous edit suites using the latest industry software, including Avid, Flash, Audition and Dreamweaver;
- a tri-media broadcast journalism newsroom; and
- a dedicated Avid editing teaching room;
Regular interactive media workshops add to an exciting and stimulating environment for their undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses. Recent developments include HDTV.
