Skillset's Welsh Language Scheme
Our Welsh Language Scheme sets out how Skillset will provide a bilingual service to the public in Wales.
The Welsh Language Act 1993 places an obligation on the public sector to treat the Welsh and English languages equally in the provision of services to the public in Wales. The purpose of a Welsh Language Scheme is to provide details of how Welsh Language services will be provided.
Sector Skills Councils (SSC's) are required to produce a Welsh Language Scheme within their first year of license with the Sector Skills Development Agency. Skillset Cymru was the first SSC in Wales to have its scheme approved by the Welsh Language Board.
Skillset has adopted the principle that in the conduct of public business in Wales it will treat Welsh and English on a basis of equality. Our Welsh Language Scheme sets out how we will implement that principle in the provision of services to the public in Wales. Skillset recognise that individuals can express their views and needs better in their preferred language, and that enabling them to use their preferred language is a matter of good practice rather than a concession.
