Employee Training - Success Story - Howie Luong
Howie Luong was one employee who took part in the Skillset Employee Training Programme which provided tuition and development support for 234 employees of small and medium enterprises within London's creative media industries.
Howie, as an employee of West Digital, undertook a three day Avid Skillset funded course at VET which he felt would cover techniques relevant to his role. "The course consolidated what I already knew but I also learnt lots of new things about creating effects and how I could relate them to techniques that I use on a day to day basis."
Darren Cock, MD at West Digital adds "The Avid DS 101 course has been very important to our organisation as we have two AVID DS suites. As our HD output increases and the Avid DS Nitris workload increases; it becomes important to ensure that we have as wide a skill base as possible. The machinery has been a big investment for the company and it is vital it is used to its full potential."
He continues "Four employees have now been able to take advantage of these courses and they have provided an invaluable training opportunity, benefiting our staff, our organisation and our clients. This knowledge will enable Howie and the others who have been able to take advantage of this tuition to move forward in their careers and ultimately make themselves more employable in the future."
Howie agrees that the training has been of real value to him, "The knowledge I have gained has made me faster on the equipment and given me new skills and techniques that I can use in the edit suite."
The project has been funded by the European Social Fund and the London Development Agency which subsidise a range of technical courses by 80%.
