Employers told us what skills they wanted to see from new recruits so Skillset got together with industry, training organisations and City & Guilds (the qualification's awarding body) to develop a training programme that would provide new entrants with these skills.
The result was a flexible, generic qualification taught over 4 bite–sized units covering:
- Employment & professional development in the audio visual industries.
- Its working practices.
- Current & emerging technologies.
- Health & safety practices in the industries.
Each unit has assignments and a short multiple choice test at the end to help re–enforce your knowledge.
Thanks to the Learning and Skills Council we piloted the qualification in London and over 250 trainees took advantage. "The course is really informative," said Dan Willis – "I have a much broader knowledge of industry issues now. The course teaches lots of things that are really applicable and practical when working in the media world, from business skills such as invoicing, tax, contractual and legal information to understanding the technologies that enable the industry to exist.
The audio visual Industries course really ‘plugged' a few gaps in my knowledge and helped me piece a few things together so I could see the bigger picture. A real bonus of the course is that I am now much more confident in areas I previously felt weak in."
Now it's available in London, the North West and being rolled out elsewhere too.
