Making London a Better Place to Film 

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, is set to introduce a new set of goals to make it easier to produce movies in the City. It is part of a wider agenda  in association with Film London, the capital's screen agency.

As pqart of the these plans the Mayor also plans to boost investment in grassroots film making and plans for a one day celebration dedicated to film.

Regarding these initiatives Film London chief executive Adrian Wootton said: "This is a massively important industry to our city, with huge potential to increase business opportunities across a whole range of areas."

Leading actors call for the British Film Industry to clean up its act

Leading british actors such Emma Thompson and Alistair McGowan have joined former Mayor Ken Livingstone and Film London to launch The Green Screen London scheme.

The scheme aims to cut the carbon emissions of the film and TV industry.  

It will begin with a £25,000 study to analyse the ecological footprint of the sector before developing a climate change action plan for film production.

Major New Gallery for Photographers

Blink and you'll miss the photographers Gallery in it's current location on Great Newport Street. However by 2011 you will find this innovative gallery in a new location on Ramillies Street in Soho.

Spread over six floors, the new Gallery will have double the current exhibition space, provide state of the art technology for education, have a new on-line resource centre and a street level café and bar.

The world renown photographer Lord Snowdon said: "For me, London has always been a hotbed for photographic talent - as much in the sixties as it is now. The decision to create a brand new space for The Photographers' Gallery is vital to London maintaining its leading role in this field."


Golden Globes success for London based TV and Film

Atonement, Longford and Extras all picked up awards at the Golden Globe Press Conference, which replaced the tranditional awards ceremony due to the on-going writers strike. For more information on the awards please have a look at the website - The Golden Globes.


Big Studios to get a revamp

Ealing Studios is proceeding with the second part of the planned £50 million redevelopment of a multi media office space. The aim is to improve Ealing Studios as a production facility and a producer of films, and re-establish the studio at calibre it was operating at in the mid twentieth century.
